The gasp escaped Woodring, piercing silence.

Lady Leira stood holding his shoulders, keeping him from collapsing further.

“Where is this?” he asked.

She surveyed forest nearby, distant mountains, unfamiliar flowers dotting the sunlit clearing. “I don’t recognize this world.”

“World …?”

“None can control which. The requisites are temperateness, air, water and solid ground.”

Woodring turned to her. “How?”

“Later,” she assured. He felt she omitted something else before it passed her lips. “Take my hand. We must find cover. If Isley didn’t destroy my papers in his attack, he may find my journal. I was cryptic, but he is clever.”
