Competence and strength combined inside her, brewing courage that spoke in soft syllables, “There, there,” then dissipated. No one saw her arms fly out as gravity pulled her core. She tripped in tangles, tangled.
Her strength shadowed the fall, obscuring it to some. Others moved on unmoved by small spectacle or the fleeting sight of an ordinary ember fading.
Many hoped courage was her shield, offering sure reward, but for her it’d behaved like fun house mirrors, mocking while exhausting constraints culminated into thick rooted, strangling limitation.
Truer courage might’ve let her dissolve and float like mist into ether, released.
